The Story of Bevel™: A Classic Take on Modern Plates

2023 is the year for modern plates that embrace bold color, soft curves, and clean architectural lines to deliver a tabletop that is both elegant and functional. Our new Bevel™ collection was inspired by geometric shapes and moody hues that are driving design right now. But that’s not the whole story behind these restaurant plates.

While our Miami designers enjoy creating porcelain plates that are as droolworthy as the menus they serve, our team loves to bring to the tabletop something that’s missing. Something that the front of house staff is hungry for…innovation.

Bevel Modern Plates

Modern Plates That Are Edgy, Easy to Hold, and Fun to Plate With

For our newest collection of restaurant plates, we knew we wanted to fuse modern geometric elements with traditional clean lines while also providing the high-quality materials and durability you expect from FOH®.  The characteristics of our collection were inspired by the latest design trends, which can be spotted everywhere you turn – in buildings, furniture, art, and more. So, we thought, why not bring this trend to the tabletop?

What makes Bevel™ so different from the modern plates you can currently find in the market is its unique design, which features sculpted, rounded edges, straight walls and a flat plating surface. This combination of curves and lines makes Bevel™ easy to grip – and easy on the eyes. The oval shape of also makes these stackable plates extremely versatile and easily pairable with other pieces.

Introducing Something New to the Market

When conceptualizing Bevel™, we knew we wanted to bring something to the market that hadn’t been done before while also staying true to the current design trends. With Bevel™, we introduced moody, rich colors that evoke feelings nostalgia and add a layer of depth to any dining experience.

We chose this palette because it works in unison with any culinary creation, each enhancing the other. Our Bevel™ Stone is a cool light grey with warm, beige undertones, Bevel™ Lapis is a deep Mediterranean blue with hints of green that accentuates any dish, and Bevel™ White is a pure white that brings a crisp, clean and classic feel to any tabletop.

Our Bevel™ collection also features stainless steel cup and saucer pieces. In keeping with our goal to create unique and stylish yet durable pieces, these accessories are not only sleek, they’re also unbreakable. Fashioned with double walls (a characteristic not often found among traditional restaurant collections), our stainless steel drinkware is smudge-proof, resilient and engineered for optimal temperature control, whether turning up the heat with a café au lait or cooling the palate with a scoop of tropical sorbet.

The Vision Behind Bevel™

Essentially, Bevel™ is a marriage of our edgy Soho and classic Harmony collections that aims to create a balance between the dishes being served and the dishes they are presented on. We took the best of both these collections and added semi-tall straight walls around the porcelain plates and bowls for greater functionality.

We envisioned Bevel™ being paired with both Soho and Harmony because of the fluidity of its coupe shape. Our partners who already feature Soho or Harmony can refresh their existing collections by adding a few Bevel™ pieces for a pop of color or can opt to make Bevel™ their staple collection.

The aesthetic itself exudes a mid-century modern vibe. However, it wasn’t intentional. Much like art, our modern plates take on a life of their own and the design is open to interpretation. We like to think of them as universal. Bevel™, especially, draws from both classic and modern styles, which allows it to mix exceptionally well with other collections, from Bistro chic to Michelin Star posh.

But don’t just take our word for it…plate on it!

“I had the pleasure of recently photographing the new Bevel™ collection from Front of The House®,” shared Carlos Leo, an aspiring chef and food stylist for Spoonabilities. “…the most exciting features of this collection are the shapes with raised (beveled) edges…Each color of the collection can be used in any number of different themed setups or events, and the different colors can be interchanged [to] give a touch of elegance to any hotel buffet station or VIP area.”

The Process: From Concept to Tabletop

When conceptualizing a new collection, we like to take inspiration from what’s around us while incorporating current design trends. Then, we create shapes that will deliver something fresh to the market.

Next is the testing phase. This is when the collection really starts to develop its signature look and texture.

Bevel™, like all our chip-resistant dinnerware, underwent a rigorous testing process prior to launch, including numerous chip and scratch tests. Our pieces must deliver both in design and quality prior to launch, so they are tested repeatedly to ensure a consistent outcome that not only meets but exceeds our expectations.

“The geometry of the collection reads really well with what’s going on in the landscape of design,” explained Zoë Chamorro, Product Design and Development Senior Manager. “We took our time to make sure we got the essence of this collection just right, testing colors and making updates as design trends changed.”

We couldn’t be prouder to add Bevel™ to our array of serving solutions. These modern plates complement any tabletop, buffet and banquet, as well as existing collections. Our focus has always been to enhance the tabletop experience and strengthen the diversity of our solutions. After years in the making, Bevel™ is finally here. We took our time to make sure every angle, curve and shade were perfect and hope you enjoy the collection as much as we do.
